Mercy Called to Mind

What Jeremiah remembers in the middle of a ruined city

Today's Focus

Jeremiah has spent twenty verses describing affliction before he says anything about hope. The turn in verse 21 happens when he calls something to mind. What he recalls is the steadfast love of the Lord and the mercies that are new every morning, and the ground he gives for hope is the faithfulness of God rather than any change in his circumstances.
