Paul arrives in Corinth, meets Aquila and Priscilla, and the Lord tells him in a vision to stay: I have many in this city.
Corinth controlled the isthmus between two seas, took tolls from both, and was famous for wealth and immorality. Paul founded its church in a working congregation beside the synagogue, stayed a year and a half, and later wrote 1 and 2 Corinthians to it.
The bustling isthmus city of Achaia where Paul stayed eighteen months and to which he wrote his longest pastoral letters.

Ships were hauled across the six-kilometre isthmus on a paved way rather than risk the long storm passage around the Peloponnese. Whoever held Corinth held the crossing, and the city grew rich on it.
