Go from your country to the land that I will show you. Abram goes, not knowing where, and the story of the begins with walking.

Abraham's route followed the only road water allowed: up the Euphrates from Ur, west at Haran, then south through Damascus country into Canaan, with a famine detour to Egypt and back. Every stage is a named place on the Fertile Crescent's arc.

From Ur of the Chaldeans up the Euphrates to Haran, then down through Canaan to Egypt and back: the migration that began the covenant story.

Identification note. Ur is widely identified with Tell el-Muqayyar in southern Iraq; Haran lies in south-east Türkiye.

The Fertile Crescent's arc explains the shape of the journey: nobody crossed the directly. Faith's route was the water's route, and Hebrews remembers the going, not the arriving.
