Jesus goes out with his disciples across the brook Kidron, where there was a garden.
The Kidron is Jerusalem's eastern boundary, the valley every crossed to reach the of Olives and every reformer used as the city's drain for idols. David crossed it in tears; Jesus crossed it deliberately toward his arrest.

The valley is a seasonal brook, dry most of the year. John 18:1's mention of it is the natural route from the upper room across to Gethsemane, and the parallel with David's flight in 2 Samuel 15 is written into the geography.
