Daniel stands on the bank of the great river, the Tigris, when the vision comes.
The Tigris ran past Assyria's capitals, Nineveh among them. Its name in Hebrew, Hiddekel, marks it as one of Eden's four rivers, and it is the last river of the Old Testament's visions.
