What this passage says
Verse 6 tells the reader what to do with anxiety: in nothing be anxious, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving make requests known to God. Verse 7 states the result, that God's peace guards hearts and thoughts in Christ Jesus. Verse 8 then names what the mind is to be occupied with, and verse 9 adds practice.

What this means for you
Verse 7 does not promise the situation will change. It says peace will guard heart and thoughts, which is care for the person in the middle of it.
One thing to do
Turn one anxious thought into one spoken request today, adding one thing you can thank God for, exactly as verse 6 orders it.
Pray this passage
Father, verse 6 tells me to bring everything to you with thanksgiving instead of carrying it as anxiety, so I bring this. I am not asking to feel nothing. I am asking for what verse 7 says you give, peace that guards my heart and my thoughts in Christ Jesus. Teach me to think on what verse 8 names.
Or pray in your own words
- Say the request out loud, in the plainest words you have.
- Name one thing to thank him for, as verse 6 says.
- Ask for the guarding of verse 7 over your thoughts tonight.
