What this passage says
After describing affliction and bitterness, the writer says he calls something to mind and therefore has hope: the Lord's loving kindnesses do not cease, his mercies are new every morning, great is his faithfulness. He goes on to say the Lord is good to those who wait for him, and that he does not afflict willingly.

What this means for you
The turn in verse 21 is deliberate: this I recall to mind, therefore have I hope. The hope is not produced by the circumstances improving but by what is remembered about God.
One thing to do
Each morning this week, read verses 22 and 23 before you read anything else on your phone.
Pray this passage
Lord, this passage says your mercies are new every morning and your faithfulness is great. Nothing in my situation says that yet. I am asking you to make me one of those this passage speaks of, who waits for you and seeks you. Give me hope from what is true about you.
Or pray in your own words
- Say plainly what has drained your hope.
- Recall one thing God has actually done, as verse 21 does.
- Ask for mercies new tomorrow morning.
