What this passage says

Paul describes a thorn in the flesh and says he asked three times for it to be taken away. The Lord's answer is recorded: my is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Paul then says he will boast in weaknesses so Christ's power may rest on him.

What describes your situation best?

Only if it helps. Nothing you choose is saved or sent anywhere.

What this means for you

Paul's request was not granted as asked. What he received instead was a stated sufficiency of , which is why the passage speaks to someone whose situation has not lifted.

One thing to do

Say honestly what you cannot carry, then ask for sufficient for today rather than for the whole road.

Pray this passage

Lord, you told Paul that your grace is sufficient and your power is made perfect in weakness. I am weak, and my situation has not changed. I am asking for the grace this passage promises, enough for today, and for your strength where mine has run out.

Or pray in your own words

  • Tell God exactly what has drained you.
  • Ask for sufficient for today, in verse 9's words.
  • Ask for one person to share the load.
