Bread for Today
Manna could not be hoarded past its day.

The truth of the day
God provides exactly enough for each day, and the instruction not to hoard it past morning is not arbitrary. When people try anyway, the surplus spoils, turning the attempted security into something disgusting rather than useful.
The daily provision trains a habit: trust God again tomorrow rather than secure yourself today against needing Him tomorrow. The spoiling manna is the text's own commentary on hoarding.

Deeper insight
What the passage says in its own setting
The pattern has one deliberate exception: on the sixth day the people gather twice as much, and that portion does not spoil, because it is meant to carry them through the Sabbath when no manna falls (Exodus 16:22-26). The daily rule is not arbitrary austerity; it flexes exactly where trust needs to extend to cover a day of rest.
Manna appears again much later in the story only to be remembered: a jar of it is kept before the testimony as a witness to future generations of what God provided in the wilderness (Exodus 16:32-34). The provision that could not be hoarded for personal security is preserved instead as a permanent reminder of God's faithfulness.
