What the labels mean
- Scripture explicitly says
- This states what the biblical text itself says, in the passage being read.
- Direct quotation or allusion
- One part of Scripture quotes or clearly alludes to another. The citing reference is named so you can check it.
- Canonical theme
- A connection across the whole Bible. The passages develop the same theme; one is not quoting the other.
- Interpretive conclusion
- A conclusion drawn from the text. The reasoning is given so you can weigh it against the passage.

Paul is defending his ministry against critics who judge by appearance, and he answers by pointing to a different kind of power altogether, one not measured by force or reputation.
The battlefield he names is the mind: strongholds, imaginations, every high thing exalted against the knowledge of God. The fight includes what a person believes and argues, not only what they do.

Deeper insight
What the passage says in its own setting
Corinth was a city proud of rhetorical skill, and some in the church judged Paul weak because his speech was unimpressive, according to 2 Corinthians 10:10. His answer is not to out-argue them but to name a different category of power entirely, one that operates through weakness rather than eloquence.
Strongholds, ochurōma, is a military term for a fortified place. Paul is picturing entrenched patterns of thought as fortifications to be demolished, which is a striking claim: ideas can be as defended and as real an obstacle as a physical wall.
