No More Tears
Heaven does not merely add joy, it removes what has caused sorrow.

The truth of the day
The image is personal, God himself wiping tears, not merely removing their cause from a distance. The verse then lists what will be gone: death, mourning, crying, pain, naming exactly the griefs that mark human life now.
This is not a promise that grief never happened. It is a promise that grief will not continue, spoken to people, including Revelation's original readers, who had genuine reason to weep under persecution.

Deeper insight
What the passage says in its own setting
This verse draws directly on Isaiah 25:8, where the Lord will swallow up death forever and wipe away tears from all faces, a promise John applies specifically to the church's future. The connection shows Revelation reading Isaiah's hope as fulfilled in the new creation rather than introducing new imagery.
Revelation was likely written to churches under real pressure, possibly persecution, in Asia Minor (Revelation 1:9, 2:10, 2:13). This promise of an end to mourning and pain is not abstract comfort for a comfortable audience; it answers the actual suffering the original readers faced.
