Revelation pictures the culmination of redemption as a wedding feast, a celebration with an invited guest list, not a solemn dissolution of history. The image is deliberately joyful, echoing weddings throughout Scripture as symbols of covenant joy.
The declaration these are true words of God is unusually emphatic, underlining that this is not poetic exaggeration but a reliable promise given the same weight as any other statement in Revelation.

Deeper insight
What the passage says in its own setting
The wedding imagery builds on marriage as a picture of God's covenant with his people throughout Scripture, from Hosea's marriage as a picture of Israel's unfaithfulness (Hosea 2:19-20) to Paul's comparison of Christ and the church to a husband and wife (Ephesians 5:31-32). Revelation gathers this long thread into its final scene.
Just before this verse, Revelation 19:7-8 describes the bride, the church, having made herself ready, clothed in fine linen identified as the righteous acts of the saints. The wedding supper follows a preparation that involves the church's own faithful living, not only a gift received passively.
