Promises of provision

Spoken to: Paul writing to a church that had just supported him.

The word is 'need', and the measure is God's riches, not the reader's wishes. Paul says this after describing his own experience of both plenty and hunger (Philippians 4:11-12).

Spoken to: David's testimony from a long life.

This is David's observation across a lifetime, written as what he has seen. It sits inside a psalm that also says the righteous fall and are raised up again (Psalm 37:24).

Spoken to: Spoken by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount.

'All these things' are the food and clothing just named. The Father knows the need; the seeking comes first.

Matthew 6:31-33

Spoken to: A psalm of David.

The confidence is in who shepherds, not in what is stocked. The same psalm later sets a table in the presence of enemies (Psalm 23:5).
