Promises of salvation

Spoken to: Spoken by Jesus to Nicodemus.

The promise is eternal life instead of perishing, and the door is whoever believes. The ground of it is that God gave his Son.

John 3:16

Spoken to: Paul explaining the word of faith to the Romans.

Confess and believe, and you will be saved. Paul adds two verses later that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved (Romans 10:13).

Romans 10:9

Spoken to: Paul and Silas answering the Philippian jailer.

The answer to 'what must I do to be saved?' (Acts 16:30) is one word long. The jailer's household heard the word and believed for themselves (Acts 16:32-34).

Acts 16:31

Spoken to: Spoken by Jesus about his sheep.

Three certainties: life given, never perishing, no one able to snatch. The sheep in view are those who hear his voice and follow him (John 10:27).

John 10:28

Spoken to: Paul writing to the Ephesian believers.

Saved is stated as something already done. Grace is the cause, faith the means, and works are ruled out as the ground so that no one can boast.
