Anger

James does not say never be angry; he gives an order of operations. Swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger. Then he gives the reason: man's anger does not produce God's righteousness. Scripture can therefore hold two things at once, a slow and governed anger that fits the righteousness of God, and the quick self-defending anger that never does.
A prayer from this passage
Lord, make me quick to listen and slow to speak. Where my anger is really about my own pride, expose it. Where something truly grieves Your holiness, teach me to respond the way You do, without sin and without delay in obeying You.
