Loading Philippians 2:3

Paul does not ask for low self-esteem. He asks for a mind that is free enough from itself to attend to others. The proof of the command is what follows in the chapter: Christ, who possessed everything, took the form of a servant.

A prayer from this passage

Lord Jesus, You emptied Yourself for me. Free me from the need to be seen, and give me lowliness of mind that can honestly value other people above myself. Where pride is dressed up as principle, expose it.

Key truth

Humility is not thinking badly of ourselves but being free enough from ourselves to serve others as Christ did.

Day 10: Zechariah 9:9-10

Zechariah pictures Israel's king arriving not on a warhorse but humble, riding on a donkey, which is exactly how Jesus enters Jerusalem centuries later. The kind of king this is matters as much as the fact that he comes.
