The Faithfulness of God

What it means

In the middle of a book of grief over a ruined city, Jeremiah says the Lord's loving kindnesses do not cease, that his compassion does not fail, and that they are new every morning: great is his faithfulness. The setting matters. This is not written from comfort, but from the ruins of Jerusalem.

Why every Christian should know it

It teaches you where to look for mercy on a hard morning, and it proves that God's faithfulness can be confessed inside grief rather than only after it has passed.

Pray it back

Lord, your mercies are new this morning. I take today's portion from your hand.

What it means

Moses tells Israel that the Lord their God is the faithful God, who keeps covenant and loving kindness with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations. The number is deliberately beyond counting.

Why every Christian should know it

It stretches God's faithfulness past your lifetime. What he promised your grandparents' generation he is still keeping.

Pray it back

Faithful God, you keep covenant to a thousand generations. Keep me in it, and those who come after me.

What it means

Paul writes to a divided, immature church and tells them God is faithful, by whom they were called into the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ. He grounds their future in God's reliability rather than their performance.

Why every Christian should know it

It is the verse to carry when you doubt whether you will last. Paul says the guarantee sits with the one who called you.
