The LORD Will Provide
A name given on the mountain where Isaac was spared.
What the labels mean
- Scripture explicitly says
- This states what the biblical text itself says, in the passage being read.
- Direct quotation or allusion
- One part of Scripture quotes or clearly alludes to another. The citing reference is named so you can check it.
- Canonical theme
- A connection across the whole Bible. The passages develop the same theme; one is not quoting the other.
- Interpretive conclusion
- A conclusion drawn from the text. The reasoning is given so you can weigh it against the passage.

The truth of the day
Abraham has climbed Mount Moriah with his son and the wood for a sacrifice, obeying a command he does not fully understand. At the last moment, God stops his hand and provides a ram caught in a thicket, and Abraham names the place accordingly.
The name Jehovah Jireh, the LORD will provide, is not a generic claim that God gives good gifts. It is tied to a specific act of provision at a specific place, given in the context of costly obedience and real fear.
Today’s reminder
Scripture explicitly says- God's provision often arrives at the point of greatest need, not before it.
- Naming God by what He has done keeps faith rooted in history, not just feeling.
- Obedience can precede understanding.
Deeper insight
What the passage says in its own setting
The chapter is framed as a test in verse 1, and the narrator tells the reader this from the start even though Abraham does not know it. That framing matters: the naming in verse 14 comes only after the test is complete and the ram has already been offered in Isaac's place.
Mount Moriah is mentioned again in 2 Chronicles 3:1 as the site where Solomon built the temple, tying this act of provision to the place where Israel's sacrifices would later be offered for centuries.
