Worthy Is the Lamb
Worship the character you have looked at all week.
What the labels mean
- Scripture explicitly says
- This states what the biblical text itself says, in the passage being read.
- Direct quotation or allusion
- One part of Scripture quotes or clearly alludes to another. The citing reference is named so you can check it.
- Canonical theme
- A connection across the whole Bible. The passages develop the same theme; one is not quoting the other.

The truth of the day
Six days have looked at the incarnation, meekness, compassion, obedience, truth and service of Christ. Sunday puts them together and does the only reasonable thing with them.
Notice what heaven finds worthy. Not a Christ of power alone, but the Lamb that was slain. The wounds are still the reason for the song.

Scripture explicitly says- Worship is a response to worth, not to atmosphere.
- Heaven's song is about a crucified and risen Lamb.
- Every nation is represented in it (Revelation 5:9).
Deeper insight
What the passage says in its own setting
The chapter begins with a problem: a sealed book and no one worthy to open it, and John weeps. The song of verse 12 is the answer to that weeping. Worship here is not a mood in a room but relief that history has someone able to bring it to its end.
In verse 5 He is announced as the Lion of the tribe of Judah, and in verse 6 John turns and sees a Lamb as it had been slain. That is the whole New Testament portrait of Christ in one turn of the head: the strength of God appearing as sacrifice.

Canonical themeThe whole week ends where Scripture ends: a Lamb on a throne. Isaiah 53's lamb led to slaughter and Revelation 5's Lamb receiving glory are the same Christ, and that is why worship is the right response to His character.
