Seek First the Kingdom
A call to reorder what comes first.
What the labels mean
- Scripture explicitly says
- This states what the biblical text itself says, in the passage being read.

The truth of the day
This sentence sits at the end of a passage about anxiety over food, drink and clothing. Jesus does not tell His hearers that these needs do not matter. He tells them what to put first, and promises the rest will follow.
Seeking the kingdom first is not a formula that guarantees prosperity; it is a reordering of the heart's priorities so that God's reign and God's righteousness govern the rest of life, including the ordinary worries.

Deeper insight
What the passage says in its own setting
The whole unit, Matthew 6:25-34, argues from lesser to greater: if God feeds the birds and clothes the grass, how much more will He care for those who seek Him. The command to seek first is the hinge between worry and trust.
Righteousness here is not private moral achievement measured against a private standard; the same word runs through the Sermon on the Mount describing a life that reflects God's own character, hungered and thirsted for in Matthew 5:6.
