52 Week Journey

Week 46 of 52

The Kingdom of God

The reign Jesus announced, already here and still coming.

Built on . Jesus begins His public ministry with an announcement, not a suggestion: the time is fulfilled, the kingdom of God is at hand. Everything this week grows out of that opening line.

Jesus did not arrive offering a new set of rules or a new religious mood. He arrived announcing a kingdom, the reign of God breaking into the world through His own person and work. Crowds who heard the phrase would have thought of God's promised rule over Israel and the nations, and Jesus kept redefining what that rule looked like: a mustard seed, a treasure, a net full of every kind of fish, a king who washes feet.

This week follows the kingdom through parable and promise: what it is like, who enters it, how it grows, what it costs, and where it ends. The kingdom of God in Scripture is never only a future hope or only a present experience. It is both, held together in the same breath, and this week tries to hold them the same way.
