This week · Week 45 of 52
Promises Fulfilled in Christ
Every promise God ever made finds its yes in one person.
Built on 2 Corinthians 1:20. Paul's summary statement: however many are the promises of God, in Christ they are yes, and through Christ the church says Amen to God's glory.
Seven days on one page. Every week's board and its full study are free to read, with no account needed, including the weeks already behind us. Each week the study changes and the shape of the week stays the same, so you always know where you are.
Day 1
The Seed of the Woman
Loading Genesis 3:15…
This sentence is spoken to the serpent in the middle of judgment, before Adam and Eve leave the garden. It is the first promise in the Bible, and it is already about conflict, wounding, and eventual victory.
The offspring is singular: he will bruise your head. Centuries of narrower promises, to Abraham, to Judah, to David, will keep narrowing this seed until one man is named. The wound goes both ways, a bruised heel and a crushed head, and Scripture will not let us forget that the victory cost something.
- The gospel is promised before the law is given.
- Judgment on sin and hope for rescue arrive in the same sentence.
- Victory and wounding are both promised together.
Lord, You promised a rescuer before You even finished speaking judgment. Thank You that the story of Scripture begins with hope, not only with consequence. Amen.
