Jehovahjireh: the LORD will provide
Abraham names God after the climb, not before it, and Israel is still repeating that name centuries later.

The LORD will see. Because God sees ahead, He sees to it. Provision in Hebrew begins as vision.
A name earned on a mountain
Abraham has known God as El Elyon, God Most High, and El Shaddai, God Almighty. This name is different because Abraham gives it, and he gives it to a place rather than to an idea.
Names in Genesis mark the moments where theology became experience. Jehovahjireh is not a doctrine Abraham was taught. It is a conclusion he reached at an altar with a knife in his hand.
The verse looks forward, not back
The second half of the verse changes tense: in the mount of the LORD it shall be seen. Abraham has just watched God provide, and he immediately speaks about a provision still ahead.
Moses adds that the saying was still current in Israel's own day. Generations of people who had never met Abraham used his sentence to describe their God, which is how a personal moment becomes a nation's confession.
What the name does not promise
The name does not mean that every difficulty is removed at the last moment. Abraham still climbed. Isaac was still bound. Sarah dies in the very next chapter.
What it promises is that God has already seen what we have not, and that He will meet His people with what they actually need. Read alongside Philippians 4:19, which promises supply according to His riches rather than according to our list, the name stays honest.
Christ connection
The mountain of provision became the mountain of the temple, and the temple's whole calendar of substitutes was fulfilled just outside those same walls. The place named for what would be seen eventually saw it.

Name something in your own history the way Abraham named that hill. Not a general statement that God is good, but a specific place, a specific month, where He saw to it. Written down, those names hold weight the next time you climb.
