The Cross

The place where the gospel is settled, not merely illustrated.

Built on . Paul determined to know nothing among the Corinthians except Jesus Christ, and him crucified. This week follows that same determination one day at a time.

Seven days on one page. Every week's board and its full study are free to read, with no account needed, including the weeks already behind us. Each week the study changes and the shape of the week stays the same, so you always know where you are.

    Delivered Up by God's Plan

    Today's focus

Peter, preaching to the crowd only weeks after the crucifixion, holds two things together without softening either. The men who crucified Jesus are called lawless, and they acted. At the same time, this happened by the determined counsel and foreknowledge of God.

That is a hard sentence to hold, and Peter does not explain it away. Human guilt and divine plan are both stated in the same breath. The cross was not a plan gone wrong that God then redeemed. It was, from the beginning, the plan.

    Today's reminder

    • The cross was planned, not improvised.
    • Human responsibility and divine purpose are both true here.
    • God was not reacting to the cross. He was working through it.

    Today's prayer

Father, You planned this before the men who carried it out ever raised their hands. I cannot fully hold together their guilt and Your purpose, but I trust that both are true. Thank You that nothing about the cross surprised You. Amen.
