The women in Mark's account go to the tomb with spices, expecting to finish the burial rites for a dead man. Their whole errand assumes death is final. The messenger's words overturn that assumption: he is not here, for he is risen (Mark 16:6).
Notice the invitation to look. The angel does not simply announce the resurrection; he tells the women to see the place where the body had lain. Christianity roots its central claim in a location that could be checked, not a private feeling that could not.
- The tomb being empty is a fact to be examined, not just believed.
- Grief that expects only a body finds more than it planned for.
- Faith in the resurrection begins with looking at the evidence, not looking away from it.
Lord Jesus, I bring my own assumptions about what is finished and beyond hope. Meet me the way you met the women at the tomb, correcting my expectations with the truth that you are risen. Amen.
