Wisdom for Ordinary Days
Proverbs trains the eye and the tongue for the thousand small choices of a normal week.
Built on Proverbs 2. The chapter that describes wisdom as something sought like silver and hidden treasure, and promises it will guard the one who seeks it.
Seven days on one page. Every week's board and its full study are free to read, with no account needed, including the weeks already behind us. Each week the study changes and the shape of the week stays the same, so you always know where you are.
Day 1
The Beginning of Wisdom
Loading Proverbs 1:7…
Proverbs opens by naming its foundation before it gives a single piece of practical advice. Knowledge does not begin with information gathering; it begins with a right relationship to God, described here as fear, meaning reverent awe that takes him seriously as he is.
The verse also names the alternative bluntly: fools despise wisdom and instruction. This is not a comment on intelligence. It describes a settled unwillingness to be taught, which closes a person off from the very thing that could help them.
- Wisdom starts with how you regard God, not with how clever you are.
- Despising instruction is a choice, not an accident.
- The fear of the LORD is reverence, not terror that pushes you away.
Lord, teach me to fear you rightly, with reverence that draws me to listen rather than dread that makes me hide. Let that fear be the root everything else in my life grows from today. Amen.
