Serving One Another Through Your Gifts
Whatever your work produces, it is meant to serve someone.
What the labels mean
- Scripture explicitly says
- This states what the biblical text itself says, in the passage being read.

The truth of the day
Peter assumes every believer has received some gift, without exception, and calls each one to employ it for the sake of others. Work, in this light, is not only a private matter of income or achievement but a channel of service to a wider community.
The phrase good managers of the grace of God frames every ability, whatever it is, as something entrusted rather than owned outright. That framing turns work into stewardship, answerable to the God who gave the gift in the first place.

What the passage says in its own setting
This verse sits inside a passage about the end of all things being near, urging believers toward earnest love and hospitality without grumbling, in 1 Peter 4:7-11. Using one's gifts to serve others is placed alongside prayer and love as an urgent, practical expression of Christian life together, not a separate category from spirituality.
The verse that follows names two broad categories of gift, speaking and serving, and both are to be exercised so that God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. Ordinary practical service, including the work someone does for wages, is included in that glorifying purpose, not set apart from it as merely secular.
