52 Week Journey

Week 43 of 52

The Parables

Ordinary pictures that hide the kingdom from some and open it to others.

Built on . The disciples ask why Jesus speaks in parables, and He answers that the parables reveal truth to those given ears to hear and conceal it from those who will not see.

A parable sets one thing beside another: a sower beside a hearer, a seed beside a kingdom, a lost coin beside a found sinner. Jesus taught this way constantly, and the form itself was part of the message. Parables reward attention and patience, and they resist being reduced to a single moral without losing what makes them true.

This week walks through several parables in their settings: who Jesus told them to, what question or objection prompted them, and what each one actually claims about God, the kingdom, and the human heart. The aim is to hear the parables as Jesus told them, not only as familiar stories.
