52 Week Journey

Week 47 of 52

Perseverance

Faith that lasts is not faith that never bends, it is faith that does not let go.

Built on . A great cloud of witnesses surrounds the runner, and the race is run by looking to Jesus, who endured the cross and despised the shame.

Scripture does not promise that faith removes hardship. It promises that faith holds through hardship, and it gives a long list of people who did exactly that: prophets who were sawn in two, a woman who kept gleaning in a field she did not own, a man who kept preaching after three shipwrecks. None of them are praised for feeling strong. They are praised for not quitting.

This week follows perseverance through the Bible's own vocabulary: running, waiting, enduring under a yoke, holding a confession fast to the end. Each day is a different picture of the same command, given to people who had every reason, humanly speaking, to stop.
