What Hope Is Not
"We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul."
Hebrews 6:19

An anchor is not a mood. It is an object, fixed outside the boat, holding in weather the crew cannot control.

Not optimism

Optimism predicts outcomes. Hope trusts a person. Optimism dies with bad news; hope survives it because its grounds lie elsewhere.

Not denial

Scripture never asks you to pretend. Lament and hope sit in the same psalms, often in the same sentence.
