Small faith brought to a great God is enough.
What the labels mean
- Scripture explicitly says
- This states what the biblical text itself says, in the passage being read.
- Direct quotation or allusion
- One part of Scripture quotes or clearly alludes to another. The citing reference is named so you can check it.
- Canonical theme
- A connection across the whole Bible. The passages develop the same theme; one is not quoting the other.
- Interpretive conclusion
- A conclusion drawn from the text. The reasoning is given so you can weigh it against the passage.
- Application
- A step, prayer or question for the reader. Not a claim about what the passage states.

The truth of the day
This is one of the most honest sentences in the Bible, and Jesus does not rebuke it. A father admits belief and unbelief in the same breath, and his son is healed.
That should settle something. The power is not in the size of the faith but in the one it is placed in. Matthew 17:20 makes the same point with a mustard seed.
Today’s reminder
Scripture explicitly says- God answers honest faith, not impressive faith.
- Doubt brought to Christ is not the same as unbelief kept from Him.
- Ask Him to help the part of you that cannot believe yet.
Deeper insight
What the passage says in its own setting
The setting matters. The disciples have failed to help the boy, the crowd is arguing, and the father says to Jesus if you canst do any thing, have compassion on us. Jesus turns the if back on him, and the father's answer is the verse we have. This is faith at its most fragile, and it receives the miracle.
Read the end of the account, verses 28 and 29, and Jesus tells the disciples this kind comes out by prayer. Growth in faith is not described as working up intensity. It is described as dependence expressed in asking.
Christ connection
Where this leads to Jesus
ApplicationThe father asks Jesus to have compassion, and He does. The same Christ who did not despise a half-believing father in Mark 9 is the one who, in Luke 22:32, tells Peter He has prayed that his faith will not fail. Your faith is held by His intercession.
Reflection
ApplicationWhere are you pretending to have more faith than you do, instead of bringing the doubt to Christ?

ApplicationPray Mark 9:24 in your own words about one specific thing you struggle to trust God with. Say it plainly, without tidying it.
Today’s prayer
ApplicationLord Jesus, I believe. Help my unbelief. Where my trust is thin, hold me anyway, and grow in me the faith I cannot produce by trying. Amen.
