Bear One Another's Burdens
Service carries weight for someone who cannot carry it alone.
What the labels mean
- Scripture explicitly says

Paul writes this right after describing how to restore someone caught in a fault, in verse 1. Bearing burdens is not abstract goodwill; it is the practical weight of helping a specific struggling person.
Calling this the law of Christ ties burden-bearing to His own teaching to love one another. It is not an extra virtue on top of the gospel but part of what following Him looks like in community.

Deeper insight
What the passage says in its own setting
Verse 5 says each will carry his own load, using a different word than the burden of verse 2. The load in verse 5 is the ordinary responsibility each person must own; the burden in verse 2 is the extra weight that overwhelms someone and calls for help from others.
Paul's warning in verse 1 to watch yourself, so that you also are not tempted, shows that burden-bearing requires humility. Helping someone in a fault is not a position of superiority.
