52 Week Journey

Week 41 of 52

Discipleship

Following Jesus costs everything and gives everything in return.

Built on . Jesus states the terms of following Him without softening them: deny yourself, take up your cross daily, and follow. The chapter that holds this saying also holds the transfiguration and the first prediction of the cross, so the cost is never separated from the glory.

Discipleship in the Gospels is not a class you complete. It is a relationship of daily following that reorders what you want, what you own, and who you obey. Jesus called individuals by name, walked with them for years, and only then sent them out. The pattern has not changed: He calls, He forms, He sends.

This week reads the calling of the first disciples, the hard sayings about cost, the failures Jesus did not walk away from, and the commission that ends the story pointing outward. Discipleship is not admiration of Jesus from a distance. It is a life spent with Him closely enough to become like Him.
