Week 9 of 52
Forgiveness
Forgiven people become forgiving people.
Built on Matthew 18:21-35. Peter's question about limits meets Jesus' parable of the unforgiving servant, where a debt too large to repay is cancelled by the king and then withheld from a fellow servant.
Forgiveness is one of the most repeated words in the New Testament and one of the least practiced. Scripture is not vague about it. It defines what forgiveness is, grounds it in what God has already done, and refuses to let it stay a private feeling. It has a direction: outward, toward people who have not earned it.
This week traces forgiveness from its source in God's character, through its cost at the cross, into the hard, ordinary work of extending it to someone who has hurt you. Some days deal with receiving forgiveness, others with giving it, because Scripture treats both as one movement, not two separate skills.
