This week · Week 8 of 52
The Holy Spirit
The promised Helper who was sent so that Christ's presence would never be distant.
Built on John 14:15-27. Jesus tells His disciples, on the night before His death, that He will send another Helper who will remain with them forever.
Seven days on one page. Every week's board and its full study are free to read, with no account needed, including the weeks already behind us. Each week the study changes and the shape of the week stays the same, so you always know where you are.
Day 1
Hovering Over the Waters
Loading Genesis 1:2…
Before there is light, before there is land, before there is any created thing to name, the Spirit of God is already there, hovering over an empty and formless world.
The Spirit's work in this verse is quiet, not loud. He is present at the point of nothing, and what follows is God speaking the world into shape. The Spirit's presence and God's spoken word work together from the very beginning.
- The Spirit is present at creation, not a later addition to the story.
- Formlessness and emptiness are exactly where the Spirit is found working.
- Nothing about your situation is too undone for His presence.
Spirit of God, You hovered over the formless deep and brought forth a world. Hover over what feels formless in my life, and bring order where I cannot. Amen.
