The Holy Spirit
The promised Helper who was sent so that Christ's presence would never be distant.
Built on John 14:15-27. Jesus tells His disciples, on the night before His death, that He will send another Helper who will remain with them forever.
The Holy Spirit is easy to speak of vaguely, as an influence or a feeling, but Scripture describes Him as a person who teaches, convicts, intercedes, comforts and gives gifts. He is present from the opening lines of Genesis and poured out publicly at Pentecost, and He is the one Jesus said it was better for the disciples that He come.
This week reads the Spirit's own words about Himself: what He was promised to do, what happened when He came, what fruit He produces, and how He prays for us when we do not know what to say. None of it is abstract; each passage names something the Spirit actually does.
