Serving Others
Greatness in the kingdom looks like a towel and a basin.
Built on John 13:1-17. Jesus washes His disciples' feet the night before He dies and tells them to do the same for one another. Everything this week grows out of that scene.

He Took a Towel

Foot washing was a servant's task, usually left to the lowest person in a household. John tells us Jesus knew the Father had given all things into His hands, and knowing that, He still picked up the towel.
The order matters. He did not wash feet because He lacked status. He washed feet from a position of complete authority. Service in the kingdom does not come from having nothing else to offer; it comes from freedom.
- Serving does not mean you have run out of better things to do.
- Jesus served knowing exactly who He was.
- No task is beneath someone who knows their standing before God.
Lord Jesus, You knelt before the very men who would abandon You. Give me a heart free enough to serve without keeping score of what I am owed. Amen.
