This week · Week 39 of 52

Friendship and Fellowship

Scripture treats companionship as a need, not a luxury.

Built on . A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. This week traces what that kind of love looks like, in Proverbs, in David and Jonathan, and in the church.

Seven days on one page. Every week's board and its full study are free to read, with no account needed, including the weeks already behind us. Each week the study changes and the shape of the week stays the same, so you always know where you are.

It Is Not Good to Be Alone

    Today's verse

    Loading Genesis 2:18

    Today's focus

Everything else in the creation account up to this point has been called good. This is the first thing called not good, and it is not sin or suffering. It is aloneness, in a world with no sin in it yet.

The remedy God provides is a helper comparable to him, someone suited to him, matched to share the work and the life. Friendship and companionship rest on this early word about how people are made.

    Today's reminder

    • The need for companionship predates the fall.
    • God himself names aloneness as not good.
    • Human relationships are part of the created order, not an afterthought.

    Today's prayer

Lord, You said it is not good to be alone. Thank You for the people You have placed in my life, and where I am lacking companionship, provide it in Your time. Amen.
