Week 36 of 52
Rest and Sabbath
God rested first, and built rest into the pattern of every week since.
Built on Exodus 20:8-11. The fourth commandment, rooting weekly rest in God's own rest at creation.
Rest in Scripture is not simply the absence of work. It begins with God himself resting on the seventh day, is written into the law as a command rather than a suggestion, and reappears in the New Testament reshaped around Christ rather than a calendar day. The Bible treats the refusal to rest as a form of unbelief, a failure to trust that the world holds together without ceaseless human effort.
This week reads rest where Scripture actually puts it: at creation, in the law, in Jesus' own words, and in the promise of a rest still ahead. The aim is not a rule about which day to keep but a right relationship to work, trust and God's provision.
