This week · Week 21 of 52

Family and Household

God builds His work through homes long before He builds it through institutions.

Built on . Joshua's closing charge to Israel, ending with a household decision made in public: as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

As for Me and My House

    Today's verse

    Loading Joshua 24:15

    Today's focus

Joshua does not merely announce his own belief. He commits his household to it, before the assembled tribes, at the end of his life. The choice he asks Israel to make is one he has already made for the people under his roof.

The verse assumes something worth noticing: households can be led toward God, or away from Him, by the decisions of the person set over them. Joshua's example does not remove anyone else's responsibility to choose, but it shows that leadership at home is not neutral.

    Today's reminder

    • A household's direction is shaped by whoever leads it.
    • Serving God is a decision made again, not assumed.
    • Public commitment can strengthen a private one.

    Today's prayer

Lord, let my house be known by whom it serves. Give me the courage Joshua had to decide plainly, and to say so where others can hear it. Amen.
